CADEBI takes on national coordination of ODA-Mexico to strengthen academic partnerships

Victoria Fernández was unanimously elected National Coordinator of the Mexico Chapter of the Right to Food Observatory in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Dr. María Victoria Fernández Molina, representative of the Anáhuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics (CADEBI) at Universidad Anáhuac México, was unanimously elected National Coordinator of the Mexico Chapter of the Right to Food Observatory in Latin America and the Caribbean (ODA-ALC).

The election took place on August 14 during a session convened to renew the Observatory’s national coordination. As part of the same process, Dr. Claudia Ivonne Ramírez Silva, a researcher at the National Institute of Public Health, was elected Deputy Coordinator.

The ODA-ALC is an academic network comprising more than one hundred universities across 17 countries, committed to generating and disseminating knowledge on the human right to food. Through research, interinstitutional collaboration, and engagement with public and social stakeholders, it seeks to ensure that the fight against hunger and malnutrition remains a priority on the regional public agenda.

Among the objectives of the new coordination of the Mexico Chapter are strengthening the participation of its member universities and institutions, promoting interdisciplinary research, and expanding collaboration with national and international organizations. It will also seek to foster spaces for dialogue and advocacy on issues such as the human right to food, food and nutrition security, sustainability, the protection of traditional food systems, and support for populations in situations of vulnerability.

Dr. Fernández Molina’s participation as CADEBI’s representative will also help strengthen the dialogue between the right to food and bioethics, particularly from a perspective centered on human dignity, social justice, sustainability, collective responsibility, and the protection of present and future generations.

This appointment reaffirms the commitment of Universidad Anáhuac México and CADEBI to building academic partnerships aimed at addressing major contemporary social challenges and promoting positive societal transformation for the benefit of the human person. Dr. Fernández Molina expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and acknowledged the work carried out by the outgoing coordination, led by Mtra. Ivet Pérez Molina. She also expressed her commitment to promoting participatory leadership and strengthening the collective work of ODA-Mexico:
