Dr. David Cerdio participates in the International Symposium on Bioethics

International Symposium on Bioethics

During his participation, he reflected on the practical and urgent need to rehumanize medicine in contemporary hospital settings.

Dr. David Cerdio Domínguez, Assistant Director of the Anáhuac Center of Strategy Development in Bioethics (CADEBI), participated in the International Bioethics Symposium held as part of the XIV International Italy-Cuba Surgery Conference, titled “New Frontiers in Surgery.”

This event, the result of a collaboration between the National Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Italy and the Juan Pablo II Bioethics Institute in Cuba, brought together international experts in ethics, medicine, and surgery to reflect on current challenges in medical care from an interdisciplinary and multicultural perspective.

During his participation, Dr. Cerdio offered a reflection on the urgent need to rehumanize medicine in contemporary hospital contexts. Drawing from real clinical experiences, he addressed how the healthcare system itself often represents a challenge to overcome, especially when it comes to balancing the volume of patients with the quality and warmth of care.

From a multicultural perspective, he emphasized that the collaborative work among bioethicists should not only aim to promote the dignity of the individual as an abstract idea but should strive to achieve it in a tangible way. This process begins with recognizing the humanity of the healthcare professional, which directly impacts how each patient is accompanied.

With this intervention, Dr. Cerdio reaffirms CADEBI’s commitment to promoting humanistic bioethics, sensitive to context and open to international dialogue.
