Dr. María Victoria Fernández Molina gives a lecture on Global Bioethics at CONBIOÉTICA

Dr. María Victoria Fernández Molina offers a conference on Global Bioethics at CONBIOÉTICA

From the National Bioethics Commission, the CIBIGA coordinator presented the global ethical challenges in health and human rights, highlighting the urgency of inclusive and sustainable policies.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Dr. María Victoria Fernández Molina, coordinator of CIBIGA at the Center for Anáhuac's Strategic Bioethics Development (CADEBI), gave a lecture titled "Global Bioethics" at the National Commission on Bioethics (CONBIOÉTICA), which was streamed through the commission’s official YouTube channel. CONBIOÉTICA, as a decentralized body of the Ministry of Health of Mexico, is responsible for defining national policies in the field of bioethics, with an autonomous technical and operational focus.

During her talk, Dr. Fernández Molina addressed crucial topics such as inequality in access to medical treatments, highlighting how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the lack of equitable vaccine distribution, which affected the most vulnerable populations, especially in low-income countries. She explained how this imbalance increased mortality and deepened inequality in access to healthcare globally.

In this context, Dr. Fernández Molina also discussed global bioethics as an essential tool for addressing these dilemmas, promoting inclusive policies and social justice in the distribution of resources. She emphasized that protecting human dignity must be the guiding principle of all healthcare and social policies, referring to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a fundamental framework to ensure the well-being of individuals and communities worldwide.

Dr. Fernández Molina also discussed the challenges that human rights face in a global context, highlighting how violations of these rights continue to be a reality in many regions of the world, such as in the case of female genital mutilation, lack of access to clean water, and the impacts of climate change.

With this intervention, Dr. Fernández Molina reaffirms her commitment to global bioethics and its important role in creating equitable and sustainable policies for a fairer and more humane future.

The lecture is available for viewing on the CONBIOÉTICA official YouTube channel.
