8th Course of the Hospital Bioethics Committee 2025

Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos gave the lecture "Decision-Making Capacity: The Prelude to Informed Consent" at the "Fray Bernardino Álvarez" Psychiatric Hospital.

 

Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos Uriarte, professor and researcher at the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico, participated in the 8th Course of the Hospital Bioethics Committee 2025, which took place from August 25 to 29, 2025, at the “Fray Bernardino Álvarez” Psychiatric Hospital in Mexico City.

 

During the course, she gave a lecture entitled "Decision-Making Capacity: The Prelude to Informed Consent," in which she addressed the importance of autonomy and ethical deliberation in the clinical setting, especially in relation to respect for patients and shared decision-making.

 

The event, organized by the Fray Bernardino Álvarez Psychiatric Hospital, the Hospital Bioethics Committee, the University Bioethics Program of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and the Ministry of Health, fostered interdisciplinary reflection and dialogue on the bioethical challenges faced by health professionals in clinical practice.

 

With this participation, Dr. de los Ríos underscored the commitment of the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico to ethical training at the service of medicine, science, and society.
