The School of Bioethics holds the IX Research Colloquium with an interdisciplinary perspective

9th research colloquium

This edition brought together experts and graduate students to reflect on the ethical challenges in artificial intelligence, migration, mental health, autonomy, and clinical bioethics, strengthening interdisciplinary academic dialogue.

On May 9, 2025, the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University of Mexico successfully held its ninth Research Colloquium, an academic event that brought together doctoral and master's students, as well as external participants, who shared and discussed the progress of their research in the field of bioethics.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, director of the School, highlighted the importance of these meetings in strengthening bioethical research. This was followed by a keynote address entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Research: Uses, Applications, and Future," given by Dr. Jorge Hidalgo, professor-researcher and coordinator of the PhD in Strategic Communication and Marketing at Anáhuac University Mexico, who offered a critical and forward-looking perspective on the role of AI in scientific research.

Throughout the event, presentations were given that addressed highly relevant and topical issues, from cultural, technological, legal, and clinical perspectives:

  • Elizabeth Jenny Reyes Chávez presented on the “History and evolution of infertility and its treatments: a historical-cultural review.”

  • Fernando Ignacio Licona Cervantes presented “Bioethics and Migration: Evaluating the Fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals at the El Samaritano Migrant House in Atitalaquia, Hidalgo.”

  • Dr. Claudio Roberto Hernández Millán addressed the “Importance of diabetes and its impact on eye health.”

  • Edgar Moctezuma Leyva spoke about “Respect for autonomy in the psychotherapeutic process.”

  • Carlos Ledesma Alonso analyzed the use of animal models with his presentation "Bioethical analysis of the use of murine models in research on neuropathy and the limits of its clinical applicability."

  • Miguel Ángel Vaca Ruiz spoke about “Child Hospitalization: Stress and Bioethics.”

  • Xareni Janet Paz Nieto reflected on “Asymmetric relationships in the kidney transplant binomial. A bioethical analysis on the risk to autonomy and dignity.”

  • Jorge Antonio Pedreros Cid presented “Decision-making, critical thinking and virtual reality.”

  • Fernando Lorenzo Rego shared his analysis entitled “The delegitimization of authority in the dilemma of due health obedience.”

  • Ana Paula Kennedy addressed “The legal factors of the Right to Try.”

  • Lizbeth Hernández Alcántara presented the paper “Bioethics in Housing.”

  • Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas concluded the academic program with a lecture titled "Translation and Cultural Validation of the Swedish Infertility Awareness Questionnaire to Evaluate the Prevalence and Factors Associated with Parenting Intentions among Mexican Female University Students."

One of the most significant aspects of this edition was the participation of researchers from other universities, such as La Salle University, the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, and the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, which enriched the interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthened academic exchange between institutions.

Finally, Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos Uriarte, research coordinator at the School of Bioethics, offered a reflection in which she thanked all the participants for their commitment to applied bioethics and invited them to continue building collective knowledge in upcoming Colloquia.

A summary booklet containing the main contents of the IX Research Colloquium will soon be published on the School of Bioethics website. It will be available for free viewing and download. This will allow us to share this valuable knowledge with those interested in the ethical and responsible development of science.
