Ariana González shares her experience in her PhD in Bioethics internship

Ariana Victoria González Barrere

We wish her every success in her new academic challenge.

PhD candidate Ariana Victoria González Barrere, a PhD student in Bioethics, shared with the Anahuac Community her experience in the PhD in Bioethics internship with a brief interview:

What did the intership consist of?

It consists of actively participating in the activities proposed by the CommonSpirit Health Hospital Network, focused on clinical bioethics. The idea is to be able to experience first-hand what the dynamics of a hospital ethics committee are like and collaborate with the interdisciplinary groups that comprise them.

How does the knowledge acquired in the doctorate contribute to the completion of the intership?

Undoubtedly, the knowledge acquired so far is key to being able to adapt to this environment. Throughout the course, we are trained in matters, both anthropological, ethical and legal. These learning instances are key to being able to later apply the knowledge in real cases.

It also allows to form the foundations and allow us to absorb new knowledge in a more natural way.

What do you expect from this experience?

I really hope to be able to apply my knowledge of genomics within the hospital bioethics committee. As well as learning and knowing the different regulations and generating critical criteria based on my areas of experience. About them I also hope to be able to train in fields foreign to my core knowledge and learn from a multidisciplinary group, from the daily routine of the committee and be able to bring ideas to my workplaces.

What's next for you?

During this period of the year, you study your own subjects and use the internship as a booster of ideas and knowledge. Also to give shape to the thesis and complete some research papers on data and genomics designed for this year.

"The tools that the university provides us are of the highest quality, I thank and invite my colleagues to join these initiatives. I am very grateful for all the work of the professionals who make up our beautiful bioethics unit" Ariana added.
