Lecture on social media at Anáhuac Veracruz

Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas invited students to transform the digital environment into a space for human growth, responsibility, and leadership based on values.

On August 29, 2025, Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, director of the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico, gave the lecture “Scroll with meaning” to students from different areas of training at Anáhuac University Veracruz, Xalapa Campus.

This activity was carried out in conjunction with Regnum Christi, as part of the Via et Vita project, an initiative that seeks to strengthen youth leadership in Catholic values and inspire the apostolic spirit of young university students.

During his presentation, Dr. Castilla invited us to reflect on the influence of social media on personal and community life, emphasizing that these media present significant challenges, such as overexposure, misinformation, and uncritical consumption of content, but that they are also a powerful tool for good when used consciously and ethically.

He also emphasized that digital platforms can become spaces for human growth by spreading messages of hope, promoting social projects, raising awareness about global issues, strengthening learning communities, and creating collaborative networks among young people. He emphasized that each scroll represents an opportunity to find inspiration, acquire useful knowledge, support charitable causes, or discover new ways to serve others.

He also emphasized the need for students to become active agents in the creation of positive content, as well as to be able to communicate authentically and responsibly: “Social media is not neutral; it's a reflection of what each of us contributes. If we choose to generate content that builds, we will contribute to a more humane, respectful, and hopeful digital environment,” he stated.

It's worth mentioning that the conference took place in a participatory atmosphere, where attendees shared experiences and questions about the challenges they face in the digital world and reflected on the importance of balancing content consumption with the production of messages that strengthen personal identity, solidarity, and social commitment.

We are grateful for the assistance and support of Octavio Augusto Jiménez Cornejo, Student Relations Coordinator at Anáhuac University, Veracruz, and Aram de Jesús Huerta, Pastoral Coordinator at the same institution, who facilitated the organization and logistics of this training experience.

Without a doubt, Dr. Castilla's presence in Xalapa reaffirms the Anáhuac University Network's commitment to the comprehensive education of students, promoting activities that transcend the academic to foster humanistic leadership that inspires the transformation of society through the digital world.
