We attended the first social assessment session

In collaboration with DIF Huixquilucan, the Mater Dei Clinic, and the RENACER Shelter, Anáhuac University Mexico promotes actions to strengthen human dignity and bioethical training in real-life contexts.

Reaffirming its vocation for the promotion of human dignity and its commitment to bioethical training in real-life contexts, on June 13, 2025, the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University Mexico carried out its first social assessment activity at the Rosa Mística Complex, located in the municipality of Huixquilucan.

This workshop was held in collaboration with the ASUA Bioethics university program, with support from the Huixquilucan Municipal System for Comprehensive Family Development (DIF), the Mater Dei Clinic, and the RENACER Temporary Children's Shelter, two key institutions for caring for pregnant women in vulnerable situations and children in complex legal situations.

The activity was led by Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, director of the School of Bioethics, who attended along with members of the School's academic team and medical interns from the Social Service Department, who are currently training in clinical and social sciences from an applied bioethics perspective. This activity is part of university outreach efforts aimed at training professionals capable of identifying, analyzing, and responding ethically and in solidarity to the real challenges facing vulnerable communities.

During the tour, the team visited the Mater Dei Clinic, a center that provides specialized care to low-risk pregnant women who lack family support networks or sufficient financial resources. This institution offers a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for women who require support during their pregnancy, including quality medical care, psychological counseling, and assistance during childbirth, all at affordable costs. The work of this center not only contributes to maternal and child health, but also strengthens women's right to experience motherhood with dignity, care, and respect.

The RENACER Shelter was also visited, a space that houses children between 0 and 11 years and 11 months of age in vulnerable legal situations from different communities in the municipality and surrounding regions. This shelter offers protection, medical and psychological care, education, and adequate nutrition, ensuring that children have the minimum conditions necessary for their full development while their legal status is resolved. The shelter's environment, guided by a multidisciplinary team, seeks to restore children's rights and create spaces of safety and emotional support for children who have endured difficult experiences.

The participation of the School of Bioethics team in these visits allowed for a preliminary assessment of the bioethical, social, and healthcare conditions of both institutions, in order to identify key areas where future professionals can make a significant contribution. This direct exposure to social realities will allow, in subsequent stages, the design of community intervention projects with an interdisciplinary approach, centered on the human person, their dignity, and their well-being.

The support of Carmen Patricia Valdivielso Salcedo, head of the Huixquilucan DIF Board of Trustees, was key to the institutional connection and development of this event. Her support represents a bridge between the municipality's needs and the academic and human capabilities that Anáhuac University can offer through its training programs.

This first social assessment activity represents the beginning of a strategic alliance between Anáhuac University Mexico, the DIF Huixquilucan (National Institute of Family and Family Development), the Mater Dei Clinic, and the RENACER Shelter, aimed at promoting a culture of life, respect for human dignity from its inception, and the defense of children's rights. In this way, the School of Bioethics reaffirms its commitment to an education that not only educates in the classroom, but also transforms realities through concrete action, service, and social responsibility.
