The professor-researcher from the School of Bioethics presented various papers in which she addressed the contemporary challenges of global bioethics in the face of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 and ethical training in clinical settings.
On October 1 and 2, 2025, the Engineering Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru held the LinkING congress, a space in which Dr. María Elizabeth de los Ríos Uriarte, professor-researcher of the School of Bioethics of the Anáhuac University Mexico, spoke about contemporary challenges in global bioethics related to artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. de los Ríos' presentations generated significant interest among attendees, thanks to their interdisciplinary approach and in-depth critical analysis. In one of them, she addressed the ethical challenges posed by the use of AI in medical services and emphasized the need to guarantee principles such as equity, transparency, informed consent, and professional responsibility in the face of the increasing automation of clinical decisions through algorithms.
In another lecture, she reflected on contemporary challenges in global bioethics within the framework of Industry 4.0. She also analyzed how the integration of disruptive technologies, such as biotechnology, automation, digitalization, and the Internet of Things, directly impacts healthcare systems, and how these advances demand an urgent update of the bioethical frameworks that guide research, access, and healthcare justice internationally.
Finally, she presented a proposal on the development of bioethical competencies in low-fidelity simulated clinical settings, sharing innovative methodologies for training healthcare professionals in ethical decision-making within simulated clinical contexts, specifically designed for resource-limited environments. She also highlighted how these strategies foster moral judgment and critical thinking in students and healthcare personnel from the early stages of their training.
