Scientific, editorial, and academic collaborations were established with a view to promoting interdisciplinary and humanistic bioethics in Latin America.
As part of the strategic initiatives for internationalization and academic collaboration, Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, director of the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University in Mexico, made an institutional visit to the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, one of the most prestigious institutions in Latin America in the field of bioethics.
The main objective of this activity was to strengthen ties with the Bioethics Center of the School of Medicine of said institution and generate synergies of scientific collaboration between both universities.
The meeting took place in the School of Medicine's academic building, where Dr. Castilla was welcomed by Dr. Iván Pérez Hernández, director of the Center for Bioethics and associate clinical professor, and by Paulina Ramos Vergara, assistant director of the center. In an atmosphere of academic dialogue, both parties shared common views on contemporary ethical challenges and agreed on the central role of interdisciplinary training in addressing issues such as respect for human dignity, care for life, and the impact of scientific and technological development.
During the meeting, potential lines of collaboration were discussed, including the joint publication of scientific articles and the exchange of ongoing research on topics such as global bioethics, clinical bioethics, and contemporary approaches to embodiment. Both teams emphasized the importance of strengthening academic production from a Latin American perspective, integrating scientific rigor with a deeply humanistic approach that is sensitive to the region's social and cultural contexts.
Opportunities were also explored to foster academic exchanges between faculty and graduate students, as well as the co-organization of seminars, roundtable discussions, and international meetings on emerging topics in bioethics. This visit represents a significant step in building collaborative networks among institutions committed to ethical reflection, interdisciplinary research, and the development of globally-minded leaders.
With this initiative, the School of Bioethics at Anáhuac University in Mexico reaffirms its commitment to a bioethics of excellence, open to the world and rooted in humanistic thought. The collaboration with the Bioethics Center of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile marks the beginning of a period of joint work that will enrich the development of bioethics in Latin America and contribute to providing ethical responses to the most pressing challenges facing our societies.
