Father Fernando Fabó talks to us about the proposed foundation for Global Bioethics

Global Bioethics

We talked about the bioethical relevance of today and tomorrow, thinking mainly of globalization, ecology and inequality in access to health care.

On March 7, we celebrated the Master Class entitled "A proposal for the foundation of Global Bioethics", where Father Fernando Fabó LC., director of the School of Bioethics, spoke about the challenges we present and some ways to face them with global bioethics. The history of Bioethics was also addressed, which started in the 70's as a reaction to scientific progress that requires thinking that relocates the human being as the center.

Subsequently, the bioethical relevance of today and tomorrow was discussed, thinking mainly of globalization, ecology and inequality in access to health care.

Terms such as health, quality of life, justice and equity were later defined. Speaking, in the same way, about the role of human anthropology to address cultural and social problems in this globality that we face. The principles that should govern global bioethics and the relevance of human rights were highlighted, as well as bioethics seen as a practical science.

Finally, we were invited to overcome the "pragmatic reductionism" of good and happiness, remembering the common good based on fraternity, equality and freedom.

Master Class

We closed with a hypothesis about the relevance of filial relationships that link the starting point with the end point to finally generate fundamental bases that will allow us to face and analyze global bioethical challenges.
