Trastornos de la imagen corporal

Doctors María del Mar Álvarez and Patricia Hernández participated in a CADEBI (Anahuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics) presentation discussing the importance of interdisciplinary work to provide a comprehensive approach to patients.

On February 13th, 2024, the Anahuac Center for Strategic Development in Bioethics (CADEBI) held the virtual presentation "Body Image Disorders and Plastic Surgery" given by Drs. María del Mar Álvarez and Patricia Hernández. This session marked the beginning of the BINCA cycle (Clinical Bioethics and Anahuac Neuroethics), and drew the participation of 52 attendees interested in gaining a deeper understanding of this complex issue affecting contemporary society.

Dr. María del Mar Álvarez, with her extensive experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, addressed the aspects related to the perception of body image and plastic surgery from a medical perspective. She also emphasized the importance of thorough evaluation and an ethical approach in each case, highlighting the need to understand the motivations behind aesthetic procedures.

On the other hand, Dr. Patricia Hernández provided a valuable perspective from clinical psychology, delving into the phenomenon of body dysmorphic disorder and its psychological implications. In her presentation, she spoke about the need for a comprehensive approach that considers not only the physical part but also the emotional and social aspects of patients.

The presentation served as a space for reflection and Exchange of ideas, where the importance of interdisciplinary work between professionals in medicine and psychology was analyzed to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to the treatment of body image disorders.

Thus, CADEBI once again demonstrated itself as a reference in promoting ethical debate and reflection on topics relevant to society.
