School of Bioethics present at the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life in Rome

The Pontifical Assembly in Rome

The aim is to strengthen the collaboration of the school, expand the dissemination of bioethics and promote joint research on an international level.

On February 12, 2024, Dr. José Alberto Castilla Barajas, deputy director of the School of Bioethics, visited Rome to participate in the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life, an institution founded by Pope John Paul II in 1994. Distinguished speakers addressed crucial topics around the meaning of the human person, the interdisciplinary approach and current challenges in the general assembly titled "Human Meanings and Challenges". This assembly began with the audience where Pope Francis offered a speech within the framework of this event, underlining the relevance of bioethics today and the commitment of the Catholic Church to the ethical challenges facing humanity.

Accompanied by fellow professors such as Fr. Joseph Tham LC, Fr. Alberto Carrara LC, Dr. Elena Postigo, Dr Laura Palazaani, Fr. Gonzalo Miranda LC, Fr. Jacques Simpore, among others, enriching experiences were shared in the academic and collaborative field, also with the visit to the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and the European University of Rome. During his stay, Dr. Castilla Barajas together with Dr. Martha Tarasco Michel, had the opportunity to interact with distinguished academics and leaders from various continents, as well as representatives from Asia, Africa, Rome and USA.

The main objective of the visit was to strengthen the collaboration of the School, seeking to expand the dissemination of bioethics and promote joint research on an international level. The exchange of knowledge between institutions of different nations will make publication in specialized journals possible to promote the development and understanding of these fundamental issues facing humanity. The success of this visit makes this an essential trip for the promotion and connection of Anáhuac Bioethics.
