Our student, Fatima Gomez Kreitler (6th semester of Gastronomy) received the Best Young Chef Ambassador Award 2020 in the Young Chef Olympiad annual contest, held in India.

The different stages of the contest were held in various cities of said country, such as New Delhi, Bangalore, and Kolkata. The contest had three stages: the first two stages had a participation of 55 countries, including Switzerland, South Africa, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Jordan, Scotland, among many others. There were only 10 finalists in the last stage.

It is noteworthy to mention that, out of the five mentions granted in the Olympiad, Fatima Gomez received the Best Young Chef Ambassador Award for writing on how to develop professionally. In her writing, she mentioned she would like to transcend and achieve social impact through gastronomy. For example, by integrating socially vulnerably people into the gastronomy world or generating solutions for the treatment of food waste.

“Taking part in this contest was a great experience, even when it was exhausting due to the schedule, the interviews, etc. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every moment, especially the social responsibility activities in which I was involved, the inter-cultural dialog, and having met other students who share the same passion: gastronomy” she explained.

In turn, she expressed her appreciation to the Anahuac for the support, the assistance with some of the travel expenses, and the mentoring from Prof. Miguel Palacio del Río, specialized in bakery and pastry.

This is the first time that our Universidad Anahuac Mexico represents our country in this contest. This resulted from stay of Alexander Oliver Scherer Leibold, MS, coordinator of the Bachelor in Gastronomy, in Switzerland last year, where he learned about the process to take part in this event.
