With the project “Responding to Tomorrow,” our students proposed reducing the carbon footprint through the reuse of raffia in automotive covers.

Students from Social Responsibility and Mechatronics participated in Grupo Imagen's Cumbre Imagen Sostenibilidad (Sustainability Summit) contest, “Redesigning the environment is redesigning the future” 2025. Now in its third edition, the contest seeks to promote co-creation and innovation to effectively address today's environmental and social challenges.

Our students submitted the project “Responding to tomorrow: reducing the carbon footprint through the reuse of raffia in automotive covers,” which emerges as a sustainable alternative to the use of fiberglass in the manufacture of automotive covers, a material that accounts for 64% of the emissions associated with such production.

In this regard, it is important to note that fiberglass emits approximately 2.6 kg of CO2 per kilogram processed, while synthetic raffia (polypropylene) emits only 1.6 kg of CO2 per kilogram, which represents a direct reduction of 1 kg of CO2 for each kilogram replaced, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

These types of initiatives by private companies to promote integral projects are what make a difference and structure the spaces to transform and train Anáhuac agents of change for and by our planet.
